Rose Day

The Clifton High School community came together this weekend for our annual Rose Day celebrations. Dignitaries, governors, alumni and friends joined staff, pupils and parents for our Service of Thanksgiving, Commemoration and Prize-giving. Following this, in the evening, Sixth Form students, parents and staff gathered at school for the annual Rose Day Ball.

The service at Bristol Cathedral was superb. We were fortunate to hear Mr Roy Leighton, our guest speaker, deliver an insightful and inspiring address, and former pupil and award-winning jewellery designer, Diana Porter, presented the prizes. Dr Neill shared with the congregation her reflections on the past year and her optimism for the future - for the first time in ten years there will be a three form entry into Year 7 and after six years on its journey towards being fully co-educational, the school is now almost 50:50 boys and girls.

Overall, it was the children and young people of Clifton High who deserve the highest of accolades – they were exceptional. Choral directors, Mr Andrew Cleaver and Mrs Donia Pieters enabled the pupils’ brilliance to shine through. Polished soloists, choirs and, a first, orchestra and choir together, performed a variety of styles from baroque to popular.

Pupils from across the school were also chosen to deliver readings and special mention should be given to our youngest reader from Year 3 who read her poem with such confidence and clarity in front of such a large congregation.

We have received so much positive feedback on Rose Day and wanted to share some of it with you:

After the Rose Day Service, as tradition dictates, Clifton High holds the annual Rose Day Ball for Sixth Form students, parents and staff. This year’s event, 'A Night at the Oscars', was a sellout. Thanks to our parent ball committee as well as staff, students and volunteers, the school was transformed into a venue fit for the most glamorous of film stars. Kate’s Kitchen provided the food, Doctor Chocolate the music – it was a truly memorable evening.
